Talk Boost

ICAN Talk Boost training…

A structured, evidenced-based, in-school programme that can accelerate children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 18 mths after ten weeks of intervention.

In areas of poverty, 50% of children are starting school with speech, language and communication needs and this has a significant impact on children’s ability to learn.

Talk Boost is a ground-breaking 10-week intervention programme, written by ICAN (the national children’s communication charity) for use by teachers, teaching assistants and parents / carers.

Talk Boost can assist primary schools, teachers and teaching assistants to:

  • increase the achievement of learners
  • improve their quality of teaching
  • develop pupils’ behaviour for learning
  • contribute to the judgment of leadership and management in the school.

What local teacher staff said about the training in Feb. and May 2014:

“Fantastic. Simple, clear and effective”

“Would definitely recommend the training”

“Very good, very organised”

Communicate has Speech and Language Therapists licienced to deliver Talk Boost training to local schools in the North West. Schools taking part send 2 practitioners on one full days local training. Each training pair will receive an ICAN Manual which includes all they need to run this intervention with groups of children in their school, i.e. a schedule of activities to follow, progressions tool and course notes. Following the training, participants will receive a certificate and have access to support from ICAN via a helpline or email.
